About Us

History

ODZON was developed from a human product (GOLDEN LOTION) by a Brisbane Pharmacist, John Grant in the late 1970’s. It was first used in the treatment of a tendon injury on a horse called Amorist who had shown promise on training track but had been dogged by niggling injuries. The final straw being a tendon injury.

The vet’s opinion on the tendon injury was 6 months in the paddock.

Based on this the horse’s work was eased. The tendon was treated with a poultice of the ODZON precursor for a few days during which time the area blistered. The blistering appeared to produce no discomfort to the animal as there was no attempt to bite or muzzle at the dressing. There was also an increased swelling in the tendon due to increased fluid being drawn to the area as part of the healing process. The swollen area was hosed well. The appearance of a blister was a surprise as the product had never exhibited any signs of skin irritations at all in humans. After several days the swelling in the tendon subsided, treatment was ceased, and nature was allowed to take its course.

Some weeks later Amorist was put back into work, and went on to win his maiden in town during the 6 months that would otherwise have been spent in the paddock.

As further testament that no permanent damage was done to the horse by racing him in that time after treatment; the horse went on to win right through to open company later in his career, including a Brisbane Handicap.

The product became known as a miracle cure and was the buzz word of the Brisbane tracks.

Trials were set up with leading trainers across Australia for the treatment then known as “EMERALD EMBROCATION “ to test its effectiveness in other indications. ODZON was registered as a Trade Mark and a new product for the horse & greyhound industry was born.

Both the finished product and active ingredients were submitted to the QTC for testing to ensure that there were no chemicals to affect a positive swab.

In recent years ODZON has been distrubuted via a network of wholesalers and retailers across Australia and internationally (see the Order page for further information) whilst John Grant directed his attention to his career as a Pharmacist.

Now retired it was John's intention to try to resurrect his "old favorite" and let the industry know what a great product ODZON really is, safe to use, will NOT return a positive swab. Simple to use (may be applied directly by hand and easily washes off hands) and has no adverse effect on the skin of the user. Effective and reliable, proven over 40 years. It can be applied to any part of the body except the eyes, and does not cause any distress to the animal.
